From the authors who
brought you ‘Sherlock, Follow That Sleigh’ in 2006,
The Bovingdon
Players 2008 Christmas production was another original musical comedy from
John and Brenda Bugg. JB&TSP was set in 1966, when superspies were all the
rage e.g. James Bond. Our own hero was, quite coincidentally, another JB, the
super suave James Bovingdon, who was secretly desired by MI6 secretary Jane Funnymoney.
There was a fiendish
Russian plot to kidnap the pop supergroup, The Keetles, involving a
time machine, and a further twist to the plot concerning the 1966 Football
World Cup, which England will win or not – you had to see it to find out.
The eponymous parrot,
Jasper, was a man-sized bird, specially bred by MI6 for aerial surveillance
duties. He, James, and Jane were accidentally transported to the Spanish Main
of 1720 and encountered a fearsome pirate, who had abducted a group of
youngsters as his crew. |
-
Did Jane’s longing for the hero come to nothing?
-
Did The Keetles get to Number One again?
-
Did the World Cup Final be won before Prince
Phillip nods off?
-
Did the youngsters be able to get free, and get
an amnesty?
-
Did Jasper achieve his ambition of being the
first stand-up comedian parrot?
-
Did our back stage magicians build the time
machine in time??
All this intrigue
AND a wonderful selection of 26 musical selections all by the famous ‘Bond’
film composer John Barry.
